It was an early start as we caught the 7:30 shuttle to the airport. I had read that the baggage handler belts were down, and all travelers were advised to be at the airport 4 hours in advance, as all luggage had to be manually sorted and hauled to the plane. Remember that I mentioned that Bill had purchased a shuttle ticket onboard the plane? It was a return ticket, not inexpensive. That goes without saying....Iceland is extremely expensive....well, can you imagine how I felt when I couldn't find the ticket and realized I must have thrown it away. Uff da is right. sigh...but my big brother was not upset, saying 'it happens when you are travelling'. I have been emailing the shuttle company and hope to win my argument for a refund of the double payment. wish me luck.
Arriving at the airport, we queued with several other people and were in line for about 10 minutes when we realized this queue was for Norwegian Air headed to Oslo, not Icelandic Air headed to Copenhagen, oops.
Ducking under the cordoned markers we made our way to the correct but empty wicket where we were able to check our luggage for our flight leaving in 4 hours. Except it wasn't leaving at 3 pm as scheduled. they didn't know when it was leaving due to the air traffic controllers holding a work to rule strike and no planes had left the tarmac all morning! Uff da!
We had plenty of time to file our VAT refund at the customs office, and have breakfast.
A couple of hours later, it was time for a bjór
Monitoring the departures screen, we were very happy to see our flight was leaving on time.
We scored the emergency exit row. look at all the leg room!
