The taxi drove us through Copenhagen to the terminal where the Regal Princess was docked.
It certainly towered over the city.
People lined up, luggage lined up, organized chaos. But, within 5 minutes we were checked in and I was handed this bright blue card
which never left my person for the next 2 weeks.
I needed it to board ship, turn the electricity on in the suite, purchase extras on board, disembark, prove to Russia that I belonged to Princess etc.
My brother's card was a different colour because of his previous days at sea with Princess.
The night before boarding we were advised that our room had changed. Instead of being on deck 14 at the rear of the ship, we were moved to deck 11 mid-ship, with a full size bathtub (more room to shower, yay!) & slightly more real estate.
If you look carefully at the photo, you will see a 'v' shaped shadow mid-ship. We are in the sunny section before the v meets on the deck below us.
Bill took this photo from the Seawalk on deck 16. The walkway is clear, except for the black dots which I presume help support it (?). I tried, but never could take a step on it.
Interesting fact: no deck numbered 13
We unpacked and once again Bill offered my choice of beds.
He ended up closest to the wall.
I should have switched with him.
His elbows and knuckles must have been sore from hitting the wall so often. At night I made my way to the washroom hugging the end wall, to avoid bumping his feet extending from his 'crib without rails' (his words).
Sometimes it's a blessing to be vertically challenged.
Soon we were summoned by the captain for the mandatory Muster Drill. This involved grabbing our life jackets, walking down 5 flights of stairs, scanning our cruise cards to confirm our attendance, listening to instructions on what to do in an emergency and how to put on our very bulky but practical jackets.
Then we got to climb back up the stairs.
Somehow I ended up being first on the tread so everyone else had to follow this
short-legged, out of shape, kneebrace-wearing passenger as I s-l-o-w-l-y made my way back to our room, puffing all the way.
At precisely 5:30 the ship pulled anchor.
Farvel København.
Dinner was enjoyed in our assigned dining room and table. We were met by our server Dan, his assistant Jo and our sous Maitre d'Hotel Adrian.
I have a food allergy, so Adrian came by our table each night with the next evening's menu. I made my choice and the kitchen catered to my whim.
He & Bill had great conversations about wine, and a good laugh when they both confessed to serving their house guests 'boxed' wine.
After dinner we made our way to the Princess Theatre where the Las Vegas style 'Welcome Aboard' show was performed by the entertainers.
We were both ready for lights out by 11:00 pm.
My brother's final words of goodnight..."Roll over and face the other way....your snoring resonates off my wall". brotherly love, 45 years and nothing has changed!
This is going to be a great trip to reconnect these 2 viking siblings!
