Christmas 2006

Liberating…that’s a good word to describe how it feels to not decorate this year, to not compose a Christmas letter, to not send out Christmas cards.
Grinchlike is also another word I could use. Is it really a word? Perhaps not, therefore perhaps I don’t really feel like a Grinch.
The truth is, my holiday cards were buried deep inside the filing cabinet, which was buried beneath boxes, furniture & sawdust.
We’ve been renovating constantly since October and I knew I couldn’t quietly compose on the computer….because the computer was also buried!
And it wouldn’t have mattered if I’d found the computer because THERE WAS NO POWER! We were ‘off the grid’ for 5 days – talk about liberating!
We could cope with the darkness by using headlamps (don’t look at me or you’ll blind me), kerosene lamps & of course those 500 Ikea tea lights certainly added to the ambiance. The wood stove worked OT keeping us warm but our big concern was the freezer. As Bob commented "there is a thousand dollars worth of fish that cost us $4000 to catch going to waste". We quickly invested in a generator. Ah life in the boonies!
So my dear readers (all 3 of you), I will post to the blog again in the New Year, but thought I’d let y’all know that I am alive.

I would think that Grinchesque would be more appropriate (grammatically) than Grinchlike but I couldn't see you being either!

No power for 5 days! Goodness. That is enough to make me run for a hotel. I think I used up all my "tough" as I was growing up in the north, now I'm a total suck.

I am assuming since you are blogging, you have power again.
Its nice to read your entries, and also to know that you are alive.

I got my Christmas cards mostly done but not mailed in time to arrive before Christmas, yours is coming...

Have a wonderful Christmas with your kids. We plan to do the same!
Lots of love,
Erica

ps Bella and I had tuna sandwiches and pickles for lunch the other day and I thought of you!

You didn't haul out the rubbermaid containers full of Christmas and decorate? I'm shocked! SHOCKED!! Hope you and Bob had a great Christmas! We were on the island on 12-28 but stayed in Victoria and did touristy stuff with our visitors. Next time you're here, let me know...maybe some of us could get together. XOXO Joyce
